Constance Fauntleroy Runcie Collection

Constance Fauntleroy Runcie (1836-1911) a resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, was a prolific writer and composer all of her life.  Mrs. Runcie was the founder of the oldest existing women's club today, the Runcie Club, located in St. Joseph, Missouri.  For over one hundred years, the Runcie club has provided an intellectual outlet for the women of St. Joseph. 

The digitized collection includes many of Mrs. Runcie's letters, poems, short stories, plays and music compositions.  Minutes and program booklets from the Runcie Club are also included.

 

Ellinor Dale Runcie Collection

Ellinor Dale Runcie was the daughter of Constance Fauntleroy Runcie.  She was also a world traveler like her mother and a talented writer.  She also taught at Barstow School in Kansas City, MO and was head of her own school in St. Joseph, MO.  Her collection includes:  letters, poetry, short stories and a personal journal.

 

The Runcie Collections are part of the Women Writers Along the River collection owned by the Missouri Western State University Library.  The collection contains works from women writers who lived in  Atchison, Brown, and Doniphan Counties of Kansas, and Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb, Holt, and Nodaway Counties in Missouri from 1850-1950.

Both Collections were digitized through LSTA grants.
